Searching a Variable or a file

We have a series of files all with the same extension. Some are XML and some are not(EDI files is what they are called). I want the XML to open with 1 program and the EDI to open with another.

I can find the file read the first 47 characters of the file and then I want to search those 47 characters to see if "<?xml version" exists in that set of characters. If it does then it is XML if it doesn't then it is EDI. I can create the variable with the 47 characters using fileread but just can't figure out how to search for what I want.

Something like:

If StringInStr(FileRead($sFilePath, 47), "<?xml version") Then
     ; XML File

Else 
     ; Not-XML File

Use StringInStr, that should tell you whether it's in there or not. Although you might want to use FileReadLine instead of FileRead, because then you'll know it's only in the first line.

I tried file read line but it appears that the XML part is all one line....so there is a header for line 1 and then a billion characters for line 2.
