Hi, when I open it, nothing happens.

It shows up in the task manager but it doesn't do anything there is no kind of interface or anything.

How am I supposed to use this to prevent unwanted programs from starting when windows starts up?

I put it in the startup folder also, but it still doesn't do anything at all.

:P

What does is wait for a modification to be made to your startup and pops up a msgbox asking if you to allow or deny it. Edited by SolidSnake

I'm not sure.

I thought I could use this program to remove unwanted startup programs.

I guess I was wrong? :P

Sort Of. What this program does is blocks new startup programs. it does not remove ones added before the install. you may want to take a look at Autoruns

Thanks.

I think I'm going to use both of these together for better security. :P

FYI, there are at least 6 places on WinXP that can autostart a program

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\***Username***\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

autoexec.bat

win.ini

Those are the main startup entries.

Here are the more specialized ones:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd\StartupPrograms

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute

Thanks for the information. this may prove useful when I get around to coding a new version. Edited by SolidSnake

By default BootExecute has one item that is part of windows (checks the HDs for errors), the user of your program shouldn't be able to modife that entry.
