However, just to become more adept at this, I'd still like to figure out how to make a timer work as I envisioned it.

sounds good...I would think, at the very least, whenever you do the submit/save (while save is occurring) the window would be inactive-until the application can save...Else, that's a poorly designed app . You can probably add the same loop I have above, directly after clicking the save/submit button.
