pixelchecksum

Trying to use pixelchecksum to check if something is happening in Adobe Premiere.

Problem is that minute changes are screwing the entire thing up, since its a video I am editing there are always fluctuations in the pixels.

My question is:

How is pixelchecksum calculated and are there different values for different colours?

From what I can tell, the larger the area to be scanned is the larger the checksum becomes.

MrMax,

I would not recommend using PixelCheckSum on a video for the very reason you state - too sensitive to minor colour variations. As the function is in the core code you would have to ask a Dev for details, but my understanding is that the result is some form of addition of the pixel colour values within the area scanned. :)

I once wrote this UDF to return the average colour of an area - you might want to try it and see if you can use it instead of PixelCheckSum. It returns a 6-char string with the RGB hex values of the average colour - perhaps you could look for a major change in one of these values to trigger your code, while ignoring any minor changes that were within a certain percentage of the initial value.

But why not give it a try - and by all means ask again if you need any assistance in getting it to work. :)
