Champak
I have 2 apps. One with the progress bar, and one with the data. How do I communicate the data to the progress bar? Thanks.
Moderators Melba23 Posted November 27, 2013 Moderators Share Posted November 27, 2013 Champak,A long wire? Be reasonable and give us something to work on. Are these AutoIt apps? Or are they both third-party? Or perhaps one of each? And if so which is which? How is the data presented? See what I mean? Champak
Sorry, sorry, sorry. Both are autoit, one is grabbing the info in the main loop continuously monitoring an external device. The other is my main interface app. I originally thought I was going to use one of the control functions, but I saw that wasn't possible. I don't fully understand what you mean by asking how the data is presented, but at the end of the day it will be contained in a variable as a numerical value. Moderators Melba23 Posted November 27, 2013 Moderators Share Posted November 27, 2013 Champak,If they are both Autoit apps than life gets much simpler. Search the forum for "inter process communication" - my personal favourite is trancexx's MailSlot. Champak
Thanks, but unless I'm missing the grand scheme of the functions in that, I have to activate a function in the recieving app to see what is being sent right? That's what I don't want to do. I don't want the recieving app to do anything except passively display something, I don't want the recieving app to run any type of function. I want the sending app to do all of the work, just like controlsettext. This is because the data stream is going to be constant, and i already have other functions running in the receiving app that will cause problems with this constantly polling to see if info was sent. Did I overlook something?
jdelaney
If you have 2 labels on the 'data' app (current and total), you can ControlGetText, divide, and update your progress bar. Or, have the 'data' app create a text file, which you constantly read on the progress app, and update based on that. IEbyXPATH-Grab IE DOM objects by XPATH IEscriptRecord-Makings of an IE script recorder ExcelFromXML-Create Excel docs without excel installed GetAllWindowControls-Output all control data on a given window. BrewManNH
Instead of 2 apps, why not just use a GUI with a progressbar in it? Then you have full control of the contents of the progressbar. See the link in my signature for a way that I did it with the splash screen type GUI and progressbar. Champak
Jdelaney, thanks, you gave me an idea to go in a little different direction, although not exactly what I wanted, it won't impact my app at all. I decided to have the second app send the data with controlsend to a hidden label, and then guicntrl read that into the progress bar. I don't want the function in the same app because of the frequency and intensity of the function needed to be run. There is a bunch of visual stuff happening in my app and its annoying seeing the stuff freeze and having important functions not run on time because this may jump in and run.
