Bluesmaster Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Once there was a autoit tool to change the background of a folder in windows explorer '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> When this feature disappeared in vista there were 3rd party tools to do it in windows 7 http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-7-folder-background-changer-released http://aveapps.com/folderbg.html But I cannot get them to work in Windows 8. ( is this maybe because the syslistview32 disappeared? ) Does anyone know how they could have worked or what to do to achieve this in w8? Any proposals are welcome. regards Blues My UDF: [topic='156155']_shellExecuteHidden[/topic]
MilesAhead Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 You could search this forum: http://www.eightforums.com/customization/ Apparently Windows Blinds for W8 works. See this post: http://www.eightforums.com/customization/31211-windows-8-folder-backgrounds-like-xp-win7-app.html#post277770 I'm not sure if there's a freeware solution. If so the poster "Bongo" would probably know. My Freeware Page
MilesAhead Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) btw I tried some background changers for Windows 7. I found them to be unstable. Bongo created a theme from a basic Aero theme with "antique white" background color for the Explorer folder background.. which is all I wanted(to avoid "glare" of white background when using fractal flame wallpapers.) He may be willing to do something for you.. if it's possible with W8. I just got W8 in October. I'm still playing catch up. Edited January 8, 2014 by MilesAhead My Freeware Page
Bluesmaster Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Thanks for your response. The thread you led me to ended up with no solution. As the OP and me need: Custom Background PER FOLDER for storing metadata in those pictures ( its about productivity not styling ) I could not get the trial of "Stardocks Blinds" to run but anyway: 1. I guess it just works for all folders at once 2. Stardock is to heavyweigth ( not the costs but all the fancy stuff ) I am asking this in an autoit forum because I want to achieve the same effect with autoit of course. "Stardocks Blinds" and the others I mentioned demonstrate that it is possible to change the background in a windows explorer. Even in Windows 8. The questions are: 1. How do they do it ( as the syslistview32 disapeared, obviously i cannot as stardock to tell me their know how ^^ )? 2. How to do with autoit? Any other suggestions? PS: MilesAhead can you ask your friend "Bongo" if he has a tip for us? My UDF: [topic='156155']_shellExecuteHidden[/topic]
MilesAhead Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) He does customization posts on here: http://www.sevenforums.com/customization/ and here: http://www.eightforums.com/customization/ He's very helpful to everyone. You could put Attn: Bongo in subject line I suppose. But I think he'd answer anyway. No appointment needed. He's very friendly and enjoys solving the issues. Edit: Myself, I don't understand why Explorer is so hard coded. There's a registry setting for app backgrounds, for example I put antique white for chromium browser. But no comparable one I know of for Explorer. It's really hard wired style hex bytes. Crazy. Edited January 14, 2014 by MilesAhead My Freeware Page
