Is AutoIt what I need?

OK, thank you for clarifying that. So that means that AutoIt doesn't connect to the internet. I don't know why they wrote otherwise on that website but I'm glad I know the truth now.

AutoIt is a coding language, it has the ability (if the coder has the ability) to connect to the internet, but it does not do a "phone home" type of install when you install it initially.

And the application(s) you create from this point forward, the end-user (client/machine) does not have to have AutoIt installed if you distribute the executable you've created.

There is one notable exception: when your application uses SQLite internally (an embedded database engine) and you've #included sqlite.dll.au3 which checks the dll version over the internet.

Note that you can simply copy the dll to the script directory and not use sqlite.dll.au3 at all.

Thank you guys. I just wanted to know if the AutoIt program itself makes an exception in FW and calls home as it's written on that site. So the answer is no. Thanx for clarifying it.

I never heard of AutoIt adding exceptions to a firewall. Any firewall worth it's salt will inform you if an AutoIt script attempts to connect to the internet. I use Zone Alarm to monitor internet access and I seldom add exceptions. When I run a script requiring internet access, Zone Alarm always asks whether to allow it or not.

The simplest answer, is the following checks.

[1] Can you find a program, free or otherwise, to do what you want?

[2] If yes, then AutoIt etc not needed, just that program you found.

[3] If no, then you need to create it, by programming ... or get someone else to do it. That last part, we don't do here generally, even frown on such requests, so you could try something like Rent-a-coder.

[4] To create your own program, then AutoIt is simple yet powerful, and if you are a novice programmer, undoubtedly the best option. The AutoIt Help file, is also second to none. The Forum here, is extremely helpful.

[5] There is not much, that AutoIt cannot do on a Windows PC, though some more difficult to learn programs can do things a bit better ... usually faster with less memory usage.

[6] As a recommendation, I only use AutoIt, though sometimes in conjunction with other programs, as a frontend.
