Earthshine Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 (edited) order of operations mean anything to the mathematician? LOL Edited March 29, 2018 by Earthshine My resources are limited. You must ask the right questions
jchd Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Mathematically speaking, the OP is confusing monadic and dyadic operations. In -3 the minus sign is a unary minus, a monadic operator (requires a single argument). In 0-3 the minus sign is a dyadic operator, requiring two arguments. Anyone (mathematician or not) having ever used a HP revers-polish calculator understands that. It's on purpose that many calculators (including Windows calc.exe) offer both - and ± keys. Add a full spoon of operators' priorities and you get the whole picture, full of hidden pitfalls This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available).
