Why is AutoHotKey similar to AutoIT?

Dear All,

for a while now I've had this nagging doubt it my mind.  Why are AutoHotKey and AutoIT so similar?

I can remember a while back when I first download AutoIT v2.0 the commands even used to look very similar,

e.g in AutoIT v2.0

Sleep, 500

is the same as what AutoHotKey is now.

I can also remember AutoIT became a lot more like BASIC in v3.0.

Were they the same once?

Did the original authors start together and then have a falling out?
