quick question

Im trying to have my autoit script open up a file.reg but it wont do it because it will only support .exe and so on... i remember reading something telling me that when u can have it open that kind of file just like windows does it by opening the program its gonna use first that the actual file can someone point me in the right direction on where to find this??? thankz
