A3X - Integrate file version

Hi,

I am aware that it is not possible to directly version information to an encoded (a3x) script.

Appending the desired file version via HexEditor does the job and the script is running (even with the version number appended).

In the beginning and end of the encoded script I can see "AU3!EA06" which I guess is some kind of internal marking for the start and end of the encoded script. Is it safe to assume, that this kind of appendix at the end of the file is okay?

Yes, no problem. It runs within the delimiters you found. Append at will.

Why not simply adding a msgbox with the version info to the script and display it when a specific parameter is used?

You can pass command line parameters to .a3x / .au3 files as well (similar to .exe). Define a constant for the respective version number in the script. If the script is started e.g. with /V (freely definable), you can have the version number returned. This seems to be easier than using a HEX editor.

Idea behind it is to collect version installed on various computers. It will be either Appending the data or using your suggestions.

I understand that. Hex editor was only to get a proof of concept. This would be automated during compilation.
