Mozilla And Status Bar Text?

I use Mozilla Firefox for everything except I have to resort to IE for several scripts I run daily. These scripts search for changes on a series of websites, and I use the word "Done" appearing in the first Status Byte as the condition to proceed with my processing, but Firefox doesn't provide access to those bytes. Anyone have a drop in snippet that gets around this problem? I know there is probably a way to check the color of the status bar etc. but they are certainly not very elegant.

I've submitted bug reports to Mozilla since it came out to no avail...
