Changing media file properties

Here's a screenshot of the windows gui that lets you edit the properties of media files.

But what if you have like 1000 media files to edit, and you want to change the properties in a certain way.

Like if you have a huge book on mp3 that came in many files, or several huge books..

And you want them to show up in your mp3 player in a certain order, and so they can be grouped by author or album.

So is there a way to alter these properties with a script?
