IP Mask

I want to create something to mask the ip to outgoing and incoming connections. so say I connect to a server on IRC. to them it might show up as my.domain.com or a fake ip whereas the real ip or domain might be blah.blah.com or 123.4.56.789 Is this possible? also if it is could someone point me in the right direction of some key components of the help file or perhaps some example scripts.

You can't really do that any more than you can write a fake return address on your mail, and expect the person you're corresponding with to be able to send a letter back to you. Extending that metaphor a bit: you could use a PO box to accomplish a similar goal, right?

The network equivalent to that is something like a proxy server, or some sort of tunneling service, like Tor. But it's slow.
