Closing Tabs in IE or FF

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've automated an install of Dreamweaver MX2004, and the lastthing the MX Setup does is open a browser window to the Macromedia website. If the user has IE7 or Firefox, this opens a new tab.

Ideally I'd like to know a way to close that specific Tab, otherwise I have to annoy the end users by requiring them to close their browsers down before the install will begin, then wait for the browser to open again, and close it in front of their eyes (presuming they stayed to watch...), before giving them back control of their computers.

So, can this be done, and if so, how?

Any help would be appreciated!

In IE you can use _IEAttach and _IEQuit.

Doesn't work needs to be ripped out of the troubleshooting lexicon. It means that what you tried did not produce the results you expected. It begs the questions 1) what did you try?, 2) what did you expect? and 3) what happened instead?

Reproducer: a small (the smallest?) piece of stand-alone code that demonstrates your trouble
