INavMedia (CarPC App) V1.2

There is a major issue with the DVD player and Vista. I knew about the potential problem before I started making it this way, I just thought the issues I was seeing on the net were because people didn't find a solution for the 'problem'; I couldn't comprehend Microsoft would know about a problem for four years and not fix it, which leads me to believe there is some type of solution I just don't know about it. Anyway, the audio wont play with DVDs in Vista. I'm invoking DVDs through msvidwebdvd which ironically was made for vista, which really doesn't make sense to me. If you want to take a crack at it and let me know.

You can see the code to invoke it here:

http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.ph...st&p=559579

Find out more about this object here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms787385(VS.85).aspx

I have a theory that this may be do to Vista maybe requiring an audio stream specifically being called....but that seems kind of odd and I haven't investigated it in detail. I have no current intention on changing out to a different object to get the DVD, so if I can't find a solution, it will just have to stay this way it is for a while.

Does anyone know how to SPECIFICALLY tell microsoft about a problem? I don't mean their forums and msdn site, I mean their actual "bug" center, "technical help".

Upgrade

INavMedia 0.7.2.8 Beta.

Fixed: Media player hotkeys (or interface controller) were not activating/deactivating splash screen and media art correctly.

Added: Drag and drop multiple audio files in media player (media info display) instead of just one.

Improved: Drag and drop multiple user files (traffic, gas station, weather, media art, voice prompts)

Improved: OSK interaction. Now has the option to type directly into input, or the original type into text box of OSK and then send to application by pressing ENTER.

Updated: More info and images added to the Helpfile.

ludocus, this upgrade has nothing to do with your issue. What OS are you using. Try downloading the latest version and see what happens.

well, the intro is amazingly beautiful !

but then it ends in a com error message (requested action failed) while searching the com ports. by the way: what gps protocol does it use ? sirf or nmea ?

do you need the navi software installed first ? is it compatible to Destinator PN ? and ShowGPS ?

i am interested because two years ago i made a frontend / car pc / navigation software with autoit. i called it "DestiPlus" and it is based on Destinator PN. It can be found free somewhere on www.car-pc.info (12 MB without Destinator PN). but it has poor multimedia abilities...

if you need help, you should publish the scource.... ?

cheers j.

You have to be a little more specific about the error.

The protocol is nmea.

You don't NEED any navi software installed. It isn't a matter of being compatible with any/your applications mentioned, this is a "universal" application meant to provide assistance/extra stuff that nav software does not provide as the OP says. The only "compatibility" issues involved with this are some of the hotkey functionality is only going to work with iGuidance 4 or Streets and Trips 2008; if they aren't installed on your computer, all of the functions related to those apps will be disabled.

Download the new version. Make a file "INavMedia.log" and put it in the applications folder. Start up the app and send me the results in the log.

Without knowing more about your error, off the top of my head I would say some dlls weren't registered; because if no COM is set/found, generally on the first run, it will cycle through all of your COM ports until an available one is found, and if none were found you would get an error indicating that...which may also mean you need some admin privileges. You can try uninstalling the app by using the provided uninstall app, and then running it again (DO NOT just delete the files). If you don't use the uninstall app first, the problem will continue....if my theory is correct.

Once you send me the results, delete the log file, because it can slow down start up.

You're getting that error because an object failed to be created, which means a dll wasn't installed upon the first run, or it wasn't registered. So 1/ I suspect you are using Vista, 2/ you'll need admin privileges. You'll need to follow the instructions in my previous post.

I'm using Windows XP SP3, maybe there are alternative routes?

@Champak :

have you ever checked out ShowGPS ? it's free and seems to be similar to your script.

Upgrade

INavMedia 0.8.1.0 Beta.

Added: Start up diagnostic log (More detailed than previous undocumented release).

Added: Install reinitializer. (If application did not install correctly because of some kind of admin problems on the system and certain errors are showing, this allows you to fix it without uninstalling the INavMedia.)

Added: Auto upgrade. No need to uninstall before running a new version.

Added: GPS and playlist retrieval progress on launch screen.

Added: Specific indicator stating that there are no available COM ports and exiting INavMedia. (If this happens you need X-Port)

Fixed: If GPS signal is detected upon lunch, compass now shows position/direction immediately on launch.

Improved: Gas price retrieval 20% faster.

Updated: More info added to Helpfile.

@jennico, that looks like you just don't have any available COM ports this is an example I set up with my system after occupying all COM ports:

2008-08-31 15:23:25 : Critical Error COM1 unavailable. Setting COM3 as the next best COM Port. -1
2008-08-31 15:23:27 : Critical Error COM3 unavailable. Setting COM7 as the next best COM Port. -1
2008-08-31 15:23:29 : Critical Error COM7 unavailable. Setting COM8 as the next best COM Port. -1

See it cycled through the COM ports before finding an available one. While with yours you are missing a COM port in the second sentence between "Setting" and "as", which I will assume means you do not have anymore. Download the X-Port (check the helpfile) and set up some virtual COM ports and see what happens.

I don't understand how you reached that point in the start-up and you don't see an uninstall app. Check the OP and I'll upload an uninstall file....although if you download the new version, you don't have to use the uninstall to upgrade and reinitialize.

I just looked at the ShowGPS. It seems like a cool program, but I really don't see the similarity besides the overall GPS position indicator and the POI.

@Generator, check your PM

i am always getting an "Line-1: Error Subscript used with non-Arraay variable" and no folders have been created, the splash screen shows "Declarations" as the last message. After i did reinitialize iNavMedia (CTRL at startup) all folders have been created, but the start fails with the same message as above.

Now that is an error in a place that I have no idea why you are getting it. Give me about two hours, taking care of some other things now, I'll upload another version that will help me pin down where exactly that is happening and why.

EDIT: I just remembered a problem I was having concerning arrays in the declarations with Alienware and his Vista system. Although I know you don't have Vista, check to see if you have the following registry entries:

"HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\TimeZoneInformation\StandardName"

"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\" ----- Time zones

EDIT: Yea, I went over the declarations again, and that is the only array that is created there that is dependent on data that INavMedia doesn't supply directly. So let me know if you see it.

well, i've got the uart bridge on virtual com port 4 but it doesn't seem to recognize it.

why does your program abort then ? i would like to evaluate it though. but as far as i can follow the postings, nobody has yet succeeded in running the program. you should definitely share the code.

cheers j.

You've asked twice now.

http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.ph...st&p=488994

Don't ask again.

Now I can help solve your problem like with Alienware if you want, but as far as nobody being able to use it, there have been a minimum of 21 people downloading this with every upgrade, that tells me it is working "relatively" fine...but that is neither here nor there, let's get your problem resolved.

If your log looks EXACTLY like it did before, that tells me that either 1/ you did not setup x-port correctly, or 2/ there is just something up with your COM set up...because it didn't cycle through the virtual ports. If you can see the COM ports created by x-port being cycled through in the log file, PM me the log so we can fix it. Show me a pic of your x-port setup. Now I'm just assuming the following until you show me an image, but if you set up the x-port with your input as COM1 which we already know is not available, even if you checked activate, it wont activate; and you will know this by the radio beside the input not being filled in. Where as if selected COM port is available for input, the radio will be filled in. But let me see an image of your x-port and the log file and we can go forward from there if you want. Also, under Ports in your device manager, how many ports do you see? I HAVE NOT ACTUALLY USED THIS, but I think this may help you: http://www.simplefta.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8354, or if you can find something similar.

You did allow me to realize one thing that should be changed though. This shouldn't fail because of a COM port not being available since there are many other uses of the app that aren't dependent on GPS positioning. So before v1 I'll try to rectify that, it probably wont be in the next upgrade because there are a bunch of things I have to rework for that. So if we can't fix your problem now, it will be fixed in that upgrade.

Upgrade

INavMedia 0.8.2.0 Beta.

Fixed: AVI video resize.

Fixed: Vista video folder location.

Change: COM ports not being detected/available will now not result in the exit of INavMedia. Dependent features will just be disabled.: Not fully tested.

Improved: iGuidance/Streets & Trips hotkey detection/switch "intelligence".

Updated: More info added to Helpfile.

@jennico, although I made a change to fix the unavailable COM problem, I don't think it actually resolves your particular issue, because it looks like you actually don't have any COM ports enabled and the way the function works, it MIGHT still throw up an error in your particular situation. IF it doesn't work for you, and you want to, PM me so we can find a solution for you.

Fixed: AVI files now acquire proper size upon launch in Vista.

Fixed: PC Speech correction for weather retrieval completion.

Fixed: Weather retrieval by coordinates....broken during previous upgrade.

Fixed: Interactual developed DVDs now play with no problems.

There seems to be a couple issues with S&T with the day/night view at the end of a month and also the logging whch you already told me bout. Other than that this is pretty sick, works great. I know you dealin with other stuff nwo, but hurry up and fix that logging thing. Hit me up when you touch down. 1.

Upgrade

INavMedia 0.9 Beta.

Added: Peak speed in speed/distance log.

Added: Voice prompt on the subject of current appointments.

Added: Resume previous MP3 song on restart of INavMedia.

Added: Audio visualization for MP3.

Added: In Gas Price retrieval, ability to load cities of the state you are currently in based on current coordinates.*

Fixed: Visual indicator of exceeded speed limit.

Fixed: Speed/distance and fuel up log.

Fixed: Speed limit notification interaction with iGuidance.

Fixed: AVI causing exit.

Fixed: Media pausing not staying paused.

Fixed: Playlist creation.**

Fixed: Art not always retrieved or displayed because of certain characters in title and name.

Fixed: Interaction with Streets & Trips due to saved maps/directions being used.

Change: Extended time media info splash and art displays at start of media playing.

Improved: Speed/distance log now activates on real time day change instead of checking date of file.

Improved: Speed in changing between INavMedia windows.

Improved: Some coding efficiency.

Improved: Ability to retrieve media info on CDs (wasn't working previously unless you had certain settings in WMP).

Updated: More info added to the Helpfile.

* I was doing a lot of driving across states recently and noticed the need to retrieve gas prices without knowing what city/county/town I'm in, so I added the ability to get the gas prices based on current coordinates.

** No need to deal with WMP anymore. Everything can be done from within INavMedia.

NOTE: There might be an issue with the burner/grabber and how it detects you CD/DVD drives if you have multiple ROM drives. I believe I've fixed this, but I only have one computer with multiple DVD drives, so let me know if you have an issue.

Known Issues

1/ Exiting sometimes unexpectedly wipes last fuel up and total distance record. Priority for fix.

2/ Still need to add error handling for ripper....not that any errors are currently popping up...but just in case.

There are little things that will be dealt with over the next couple of weeks when I have time, nothing significant that should be noticed, but if you see anything in particular let me know.
