I can get my render to be stuck inside the desktop, but it's still on top of the icons. Is there some way I can render beneath the icons?

Might just be tired, but it seems it's a doozy

And, the Active Desktop window appears to be just fine. There's some bugginess to work out, but it's working.

It's time to kick some compiz ass.

The way I do it in XP is to activate active desktop, then get the handle to the active desktop window and paint your gui or controls or video on the active desktop window..

Not sure how you do it with vista though..

Edit: I mainly did the above to render video to the desktop under the icons using MCI..

One bug I had was trying to move a desktop icon or accessing the normal desktop context menus after rendering the video on the active desktop.

As a work around I used control disable on the video render. (as the rendered video using mci is actually a control)

This way I could still use the normal desktop items and access the normal desktop context menus while the video was playing

I'm clearing the desktop, then rendering a 3D virtual desktop to the active desktop window. This one's gonna be fun.
