Detect sound being played

Hi,

I would like AutoIt to detect that a sound has been played on my computer. It doesn't matter what sound that is, so it's enough to detect that the sound going out through the speakers is >0.

I recently saw a script that had a gui with bars corresponding to the volume of the speakers, so I think that it's possible to detect the volume of sounds being played. But how?
