Windows 7 and Autoit Compatability

I'm thinking with the new Windows 7 Public Beta we should start a thread posting incompatabilities if we notice any. This way we can figure out if the bug needs to be fixed in autoit or if it needs to be reported to microsoft.

I know one of my programs write to the registry when certain options are selected in the gui. For some reason in Windows 7 they are not all writtenl.

Later when I get home from work I'll add some code I use in this post to show how I was going about doing this.

Here's to hoping we'll get an os worth buying soon. Cause we all know Vista is crap.

So far I'm liking Windows 7. But time will tell...

If registry things aren't working, run the script as admin. UAC runs on Windows 7 too.

I thought I was running it as an admin. I'll run more tests when I am at work on monday and keep you informed.

Being logged into an admin account and running with admin privileges are two different things. You have to right click and run as administrator.

You'll have to set the app's compatibility setting to Run as Administrator, or disable UAC altogether.

Something else that's changed from Vista is BlockInput does not work.

You will probably find a lot of things that won't work on Win7. I was pretty happy with it until yesterday but now it's doomed to be removed. Right after I started my Windows 7 support pages too. Too bad about that but as long as MS continues to screw around then I will continue to either use XP or I'll rip Windows out entirely.

Works for me. 98se better yet but the limit is XP.

DOS is proportionally more customizable than Windows. You can change the prompts, put your programs wherever you want, change the colors. Windows doesn't like it when you move files.

I have a feeling that MS is going to have to resort to the method of forcing OEMs to use Win 7 inorder to sell this. It's the same method they had to use for Vista. I don't forsee a rush to the retailers to purchase an off the shelf copy for upgrading.

I think that most users are also getting tired of being forced into hardware upgrades just so they can use the latest and greatest from MS.

I'm also hearing a lot of comments from people who thnk that MS has migrated into areas in which they don't belong. System protection being primary amongst those. Also the old complaint about MS arbitrarily deciding how you should be using your system.

... decide who can be "licensed" to sell software ( maybe hardware too)

... decide when , automatically, to change the software

... decide the when last software will not be sold anymore

... decide when you buy a new computer, you have to buy the new windows

... decide when its no longer supported

... decide when your f....ed!

actually when ME came out there was such a dislike of it that windows actually allowed downgrades to be done by the merchants lol, and vista has come a long way i remember when i first started it up i wanted to throw it out my window, but with their updates and this and that its actually working decently not as good as xp did but it works i dont see why they couldnt just add more fixes to vista

Given that Windows 7 is beta I did think that the post that started this thread was premature, but I also thought that there could be an interesting discussion of what does or doesn't work at the moment rather than the MS bashing that this thread has descended to.

For God's sake its a beta OS. How can you condemn it before it even goes RTM?

Hi, despite all the arguments here is what Microsoft said on Windows 7 compatibility:

"Because From a compatibility standpoint, if it works on Vista, it will work on Windows 7. If it doesnt work on Vista, it wont work on Windows 7."
