I found a way to make the beep work. Install Microsoft speech and invoke I just prior to using the beep function.  I just used the letter b and it works fine. I don't even hear the letter b, just the tones.

Sorry to resurrect this, but it's a simple question relating to this. What is this for?

Opt("ExpandEnvStrings", 1)

I can get the beep to work with/out this, so why put it in?

Helpfile broken? .... or do you mean: What is the function in this particular script?

Yes I read the help file, clearly you didn't read my entire post. I didn't understand how this opt applied to this setup....since I CLEARLY asked why put it in here since it works either way. Since you seemingly want to be confrontational and not read my ENTIRE post, I'm trying to understand here, if you don't want to answer don't respond.

Thanks for clarifying that it is the latter and you could then indeed conclude that that line doesn't do anything in the script (you didn't copy nor referred to).  ;)
So ... thanks resurrecting this old shit for nothing.
