StringRegExp matching brackets

Good day all

I have a query regarding regular expressions in that I am unable to match brackets. I currently have a regular expression that will match a word on a line (nothing after or before it) with one whitespace after it. So for example if I want to match; howto , I would use "^howto\s$". However if I want to match (howto) as "^(howto)\s$" it does not work.

Can anybody give me any advise on how to match brackets in a regular expression.

Brackets are treated as a group. In order to match brackets, you need to escape them like so: "^\(howto\)\s$"

WOW! that was simple. Thanks for your help. I do have problems sometimes making sense of these regular expressions.....I might need to look at an idiots guide or something...
