Count something in a string

Recommended Posts

Hello guys!

I was wondering how can I count how many times does a letter appear in a string?

I mean I got : "Hello World"

I want to count how many times does the letter "o" appear in the string. In this case it appears 2 times.

I have ususally used something along these lines:

$sString = "Hello World"

$sChar = "o"

$iCount = StringRegExpReplace($sString, $sChar, $sChar, 0)

ConsoleWrite(@extended & @CRLF)

I hope this helps.

$str = 'Hello World'
StringRegExpReplace($str, 'o', '')
$cnt = @extended
MsgBox(0, '', 'string includes ' & $cnt & ' times "o"')

MsgBox(0, "Result", "The letter o occurs " & "_CountStr("Hello World", "o") & " times.")

Func _CountStr($sStr, $sFind)
    StringReplace($sStr, $sFind, $sFind)
    Return @Extended

this is my first thought:

Func occurrences($string,$compared)
Local $array,$occurrences,$i
$array=StringSplit($string, "")
for $i = 1 to $array[0] step 1
If $array[$i]=$compared Then

something like that should work :D ?
