Group items to task tray

I have written a few autoit apps in the past but its been over a year. How hard would it be or is it possible to do the following.

I want to create a program that you can select from a list of running applications to hide their "taskbar" button into the "tasktray" as a pull down or up menu. It will need to remember these programs so that when the autoit app is running to move them into this list?
