Problems converting DOC file to WPS

Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but after a bit of a search i could not find anywhere else.

Our problem is this, our daughter got a computer my twin built for her, at christmas, unfortunalty it only came with Microsoft works installed on it, and neither him or us has a copy of Office.

My daughter has some school work stored on disks, but works will not open them, her school is closed due to bad weather, is there anyway of converting these files so they will run on works? I have looked on the internet but i cannot find a way of doing this.
