Embed Resources (like a text file) in a similar way to FileInstall without copying to disk?

Looking for a way to embed a text file (or a large string) in my AutoIt Script, and read it at runtime.

FileInstall() to the temp folder, then reading it & deleting it would work, but I'm looking for something less ghetto.

I searched the forums and found something called AutoItWrapper but it seems complicated, and does not seem like it would work in debug mode. (F5)

Lope,

Why not just save the content of the file as a string variable? AutoIt can deal with strings of up to 2,147,483,647 characters. You might need to format your text a bit to get it into the string, but that not too hard and then you have it in your script ready to go. Of course, you need not have it maxing out the script as you code, you can just save that variable in another file and then #include it. :)

Otherwise, you will need to look at Zedna's Resources UDF here. But I would try the string variable method first if I were you - it has worked well for me in the past.

Zedna: Thanks, too complicated relative to the need. Does that work in Debug mode? (F5)

M23: Very cool idea about the #include massive string  Good to know AutoIt can handle massive strings.

My UDF is general purpose.

You may use only one API call for your need: LoadString

Look at _WinAPI_LoadString() I think it's in WinAPIEx UDF

No. All resource functions work only from compiled EXE file because they load data from that EXE where it's added at compile time.

Thanks again for the info. I'll definitely make use of this at a later stage.
