is it possible to use FileSystemMonitor on a FTP site

I would like to monitor an ftp site for newly uploaded files. I was recently introduce to the FileSystemMonitor UDF. Does anyone if this can be modified to monitor an FTP site. I can run FileSystemMonitor on the actual FTP server, but an end goal is the ability to monitor multiple FTP servers from one box. Can someone please point me in the right direction. If there is a better way to do this I am open to suggestions.
