Does GuiControlRead work only in your script GUI?

Yes, GUICtrlRead only works within the GUIs created in the script. You can tell this by the use of a "ControlID as returned by a GUICtrlCreate... function" as the identity parameter. The GUICtrl* comands are all intended to be used on controls you created.

If you want to read a control in another GUI, you need to use the Control* commands (probably ControlGetText or ControlCommand) where you need rather more parameters to identify the control - as you can see from the Help file pages for those commands.
