What do you mean by "without using the web browser"? Are you trying to just have it hidden or are you trying to find another way to get the messages altogether. The latter is going to be much more complicated, but I'm sure there are some example scripts that have tried the same.

Ok well I did find a post (a little dated) with some POP3 functions (wow, who knew the search feature was so useful)

As far as running it as hidden, I would start with making a script that doesn't hide the window. Once that works, you can modify it (fairly easily) to do it all with the window hidden. It's not going to be super easy, so take your time and be patient.
