sharpharp Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Hi all, Can anyone help, i'm trying to do an autoIT script to map 2 Shared windows printers and set one of them as default. I can do this with Vbscript, but the printers are slow to map when using Windows 7 in a domain environment, so I was thinking about mapping them using autoit (by creating the autoit and then building an exe and running it through GPO as a logon script. Anyone able to help?
LurchMan Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 If I were to look up the code to do this, it would probably be the same thing you use for VBS just converted to AutoIt. Dating a girl is just like writing software. Everything's going to work just fine in the testing lab (dating), but as soon as you have contract with a customer (marriage), then your program (life) is going to be facing new situations you never expected. You'll be forced to patch the code (admit you're wrong) and then the code (wife) will just end up all bloated and unmaintainable in the end.
BrewManNH Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 (edited) Here's how I did it before AutoItSetOption("MustDeclareVars", 1) Dim $WshNetwork, $ShortName, $strServer, $ComputerName1, $objPrinter $WshNetwork = ObjCreate("WScript.Network") $objPrinter = $WshNetwork.EnumPrinterConnections $ComputerName1 = StringUpper($WshNetwork.ComputerName) $strServer = "ServerName" ;~ Get the computer's name. $ShortName = StringLeft($ComputerName1, 7) Select Case $ShortName = "1234567" ;~ <== This assigns the printer according to the computer's name, may not be needed for your use. $WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection("\\" & $strServer & "\SomePrinter-P1") $WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection("\\" & $strServer & "\SomePrinter-P2") $WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter("\\" & $strServer & "\SomePrinter-P1") Case $ShortName = "8901234" $WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection("\\" & $strServer & "\SomePrinter-P3") $WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection("\\" & $strServer & "\SomePrinter-P4") $WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter("\\" & $strServer & "\SomePrinter-P3") EndSelect This is a script I directly converted from VBS to AU3 so it could probably be done easier, but it worked for me so I left it as is. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day.
