i made my gui to create a child GUI but i cant seem to get the button to work on it.

here is my code:

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <ButtonConstants.au3>
Opt("GUIOnEventMode", 1)
$Form = GUICreate ("Example", 250, 250)
GUISetOnEvent($GUI_EVENT_CLOSE, "Exit1")
$Btn1 = GUICtrlCreateButton ("msg", 50, 50)
GUIctrlSetOnEvent($Btn1, "msg")
$Btn2 = GUICtrlCreateButton ("Child", 80, 80)
GUIctrlSetOnEvent($Btn2, "child")
GUISetState(@SW_SHOW)

while 1
    Sleep(10)
WEnd

Func msg()
    MsgBox(0, "Example1", "Test")
EndFunc

Func Exit1()
    Exit
EndFunc

Func child()
$GUI = GUICreate ("Example GUI 2", 350, 250)
GUISetOnEvent($GUI_EVENT_CLOSE, "Exit1")
$Cbtn1 = GUICtrlCreateButton ("Test1", 50, 50)
$Cbtn2 = GUICtrlCreateButton ("Test2", 80, 80)
GUISetState(@SW_SHOW)

While 1
    $nMsg = GUIGetMsg()
    Switch $GUI

        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
        Case $Cbtn2
            ;this does not work
            MsgBox(0,"","",5)
            ExitLoop
        EndSwitch
    WEnd

    ;some script here

EndFunc

any help would be appreciated =]

Part of your problem is that you're using the OnEvent mode and trying to use message mode further on. You can't do that, you have to choose one mode or the other, they don't work together at all. Read the help file on GUIGetMsg to start off. Second, you really don't need 2 While loops to keep the window open, you can do it all in one loop. Third, the second window you create by pressing the Child button, doesn't technically create a child window, it's just a second GUI window.

A child window is a specific thing, which is a "child" of the main window, see the help file for GUICreate for the explanation. I know a lot of people on the forum misuse the term child window when that isn't what they're referring to, but it's better to get the syntax for the terms straight before going too far with the language so people will know what you mean.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator
