Creating an Outlook add-in

I've been looking at creating a script that would replace a tool for sending encrypted email in Outlook. The tool worked in Office 2003, but is not (and will not be, per the vendor) supported in Office 2007 or 2010. The script itself is not that difficult, it simply adds some background coding to an email before sending, which routs the email through our Cisco IronPort appliance. The only trouble I'm having is in creating a button in Outlook itself for the user to click on. Just curious if someone could offer thoughts on whether this is possible natively with AutoIT, since it is basically just a COM add-in, or if I'm better off looking at VB.NET or C# to do this. Any suggestions are appreciated.
