Logic Isn't My Friend Today :-(

4 posts in this topic

I'm having a few problems with this one, and I think it's me being stupid :-)

Basically I have the following:

Error Message: 01/01/11 13:43:43 [ERROR] Error Message

$DownloadLine contains the error message above.

I want to trim this error so as to remove everything but the "Error Message" part. What I've got so far is:

$TrimLine = "]"
If StringInStr($DownloadLine, $TrimLine) Then
StringTrimLeft($DownloadLine, 50)
EndIf
MsgBox(0,"Test",$DownloadLine)

So my understanding of this is "Find ] in String $DownloadLine, and remove 50 characters to the left of it, or until end of line."

Shouldn't this work? If not, can someone point out where I've went wrong?

Thanks!

You need to assign a variable to the StringInStr command to get a return value, and use tha return value to locate the position of the ].

Something to study:

$DownloadLine="Error Message: 01/01/11 13:43:43 [ERROR] Error Message"
$TrimLine = "]"
If StringInStr($DownloadLine, $TrimLine) Then
    $DownloadLine=StringMid($DownloadLine, StringInStr($DownloadLine, $TrimLine)+1)
EndIf
MsgBox(0, "Test", $DownloadLine)

$DownloadLine = "Error Message: 01/01/11 13:43:43 [ERROR] Error Message"
$sError = StringRegExpReplace($DownloadLine, "^.+?\]\s*\b(.+)$", "$1")
If @Extended Then MsgBox(4096, "Result", $sError)
