Remote Registry Cleaner ideas

Recommended Posts

I’m looking for ideas on cleaning the Registry on remote workstations. (will be a scheduled task as part of a Group Script)

What I’m putting together is a utility for a lack of words “rest” a workstation back to a clean state as much as possible. We have over +7000 workstation and we’re always getting request to reimage workstations do to slow performance. So I’m sick on my guys wasting time cleaning up workstations.

I like how CCeaner works, but I can’t install it on the workstation. Any Ideas??

Side note what I’m doing so far is: (run at night)

() Check Memory

() Check Disk Space

() Clean Temp Folders

() Delete old profile past 30days

() Clear any Memory dumps

() Remove software not approved (reads form INI file)

() Clear Temp file, *.bak, and so on…

() Clean Registry????

() Other... GPO Update, MS App-V reset, offline cache reset..bla,bla,bla

() Defrag C:

() E-mail results

() Cleanup and script files

I'm not too sure on the expected benefits of "cleaning" the registry. Do it wrong, and you'll be reimaging those machines a lot. Do it right, and you MIGHT gain a performance boost, and you might not. The best things to help with performance are defragging the drives, and making sure that there aren't a lot of unneeded things running in the background, like anything that says Norton, Symantec, or McAfee in their name.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.
