Converting hex to dec

Recommended Posts

Here is some code

consolewrite(dec(104) & @LF)
consolewrite(dec(0x104) & @LF)
consolewrite(dec(hex(104)) & @LF)
consolewrite(dec(hex(0x104)) & @LF)

Output is

260
608
260
104

Which method should I be using to convert a number from hex to dec? Clearly the 2nd and 4th are wrong, but I don't understand why the 1st one gives the correct conversion.

Tsukihime,

Which method should I be using

None of them! ;)

Look in the Help file (always a good start) and you will see:

$dec = Dec("FFFF") ;returns the number 65535

So you should pass the the hex digits as a string.

AutoIt's Devs were clever enough to give you some flex, so it treated the first case as if it were a string - an advantage of the Variant data type. :>
