File secuirity

Hey all,

I've been trying to research into this for some time now.

as i've noticed there are more and more people attempting to build malicious software.

due to that i'm trying to build a file monitoring tool, This tool is not supposed to stop the change but notify you of the change made in the background.

I've thought of sizes changes but the changes can occur and the file stay the same size.

anyone has an idea what i can monitor to know if the file has been changed without it demanding the whole processor's worktime?

i do not ask for the code itself, only help with the idea
