Is an application connected to the Internet?

Hello, I've found 2 threads with the same question, but there was hardly no response, so I'd like to ask once more: is there any way to check if an application (for example AQQ or any other messenger) uses Internet at the moment, just is something connected or not?

Netstat -b will show the process names of programs connected to the internet. Does that help?
