Script that helps the world a little bit.

As a 9gager( Modern-day Web Surfer ) this made my life better ,, maybe yours too .Look in Features

The Script's technique is old but its still effective to this day.

fthat_ads *version 2

Warning: Use at own risk

Attention: this script Deletes and Replaces your current hosts file (C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts) make sure to back it up if you already have modified it before.

Features:

  • Comes with a 99% complete hosts file(updated)(proven safe)(origin and more guides are found within the file) for the web and the 1% is your own personal blocking preferences.
  • Blocks all shitty ads we don't want to see.
  • Heavily commented Code :)
  • Creates Backup when you turned it on for the first time
Tip: You may modify the downloaded hosts file and add your previous code.

Guides: very easy to use sir!

  • Extract the zip file
  • simply Execute the script Internet Optimizer(on) to disable ads.
  • simply Execute the script Internet Optimizer(off) to enable them again.
  • Enjoy browsing

notes for version 2:

*if you have tried version 1 Before Upgrading make sure to delete or restore your hosts file manually*

Hi Arjoo

Cool script!

The FileCopy command doesn't have the 3rd flag therefore doesn't overwrite the file, will it overwrite it every time?

Also what you may want to do is modify Internet optimizer ON to backup your existing HOSTS file before copying yours over

Even better (and some practice!) read the existing HOSTS file and add its content to your HOSTS file before copying it over, so if they have custom HOSTS they won't get lost in the process!!

Also the OFF script should restore the HOSTS backup :)

mmm why not ?

I use privoxy and it does the same thing, with regular expressions :)

Wonder if the AV programs accept easily that host file is modified like this.

Arjoo, now try to add this feature:

When you run the ON script, read the content of the user's existing HOSTS file and then write that to your new HOSTS file, at the bottom completely. See if you can figure out how :)
