I did not want to have to make this topic because it sounds like such a stupid question but no matter what code i try file open just wont work for me. I have a feeling it is something to do with my computer but i wouldn't know why. I am running on windows 7 doubt that has anything to do with it and i have looked at the help file and the forums and nothing works for me.

Things i have tried.

$File = FileOpen("I:ProgrammingAutoIt AppsUncompiledOrders.txt",0)
FileOpen("I:ProgrammingAutoIt AppsUncompiledOrders.txt",0)
$File = FileOpen("Orders.txt",0)
FileOpen("I:ProgrammingAutoIt AppsUncompiledOrders.txt",0)
FileOpen("Orders.txt",0)

I have also tried all of these codes without the 0 on the end, i have tried compiling the application and running it as an administrator. So many things i cant even think to mention them all.

What retarded thing am i doing wrong? Btw I: is my USB stick ;)

FileOpen doesn't open a file in the normal sense, as in it opens it in a text editor, it opens it and returns a file handle to be used with the other File* functions. If you want to actually open the file in a text editor, try shellexecute.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator

Thank you, sometimes its hard to notice these things given the name of the function.
