Probably quite simple - copying text from web page to twitter

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

First of all Im not the sort of person that asks for help, usually I try and get stuck in and muddle my way through but I'm not really sure where to start here.

What I am trying to do (I think is quite simple) is search on a couple of web pages (eg: http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/ldbboard/dep/cst ) a train timetable and look for the word cancelled. if it is not found refresh in say 5 miuntes and search the page again. If it is not found again, search for another station. I think there are 4 or 5 in total.

Once it finds the text the word cancelled I want it to copy the station it is from (which it shows on the page) and the text in that line on the web page which would be Due Destination Status

from that page.

I'm guessing that shouldn't be that tricky so far but I'm not sure where to start, well what i have started isn't really a start, so I need to start again.

for Part 2 I want to paste this text to Twitter, which I think I can do and maybe put a silly comment next to it from a .txt file. Or if it is easier paste it to an excel sheet and then copy that and the silly comment from cells a and b and pasting as a new tweet.

so the tweet would look something like London Cannon Street [CST] 14:50 Orpington Cancelled - This is due to the wrong type of rain

then start again searching for the word cancelled.

I am planning to leave this running on a virtual machine continuously.

Please let me know if this would work, or tutorials that i could work from with. I have been searching for a couple of days but not had much luck at the moment.

Kind Regards,

Unfortunately you appear to have missed the Forum Rules on your way in. Please read them now - particularly the bit about not discussing "SPAM tools including instant messenger or forum auto-posters - and then you will understand why you will get no help and this thread will now be locked. ;)

See you soon with a legitimate question I hope. :D
