_IELinkClickByText Question

When using _IELinkClickByText, does it have to open a new browser before it will work?

For example:

#Include <IE.au3>
WinActivate ("Google - Windows Internet Explorer", "")
_IELinkClickByText ($oIE, "About Google", 0, 1)

In the help file, it says to include $oIE = _IECreate(www.google.com). But I already have google open, so I do not want to create another one.

If I take it out, I am told that $oIE has not been declared.

How do I just tell it to click the links of the browser that is already open without opening a new one?

I'm sure this is a silly question, but I just don't get it.

_IEAttach?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Searchresult,

The problem is that this code opens google on a new tab or in a new window. But I already have google open, so I don't want it to do that. I just want it to click the link in the google that I already have open. Make sense? Seems like this would be simple, but maybe I am confusing things.

Code i gave you works just fine on my Internet Explorer. It doesn't open new instance of IE or new tab if i already have opened it. But if the address is wrong it will open new tab or window. I'm from croatia and if i set www.google.com as address it will open new tab cause address is www.google.hr not com. Or I don't understand what you want?

EDIT: Are you using Internet explorer or some other browser?

@shutch00

Did you look at what I posted? Because that will do exactly what you're looking to do.

#include <IE.au3>
WinActivate("Google - Windows Internet Explorer", "")
$oIE = _IEAttach("google")
_IELinkClickByText($oIE, "About Google", 0, 1)
