BrewManNH
When you use #RequireAdmin, the script is restarted as an administrator account. Which means that it won't have the same drives mapped as the current user. If parts of your script require escalating the credentials used to run it, then you might have to use separate scripts and use RunAs to run them. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. RogerL
Thanks BrewManNH and jdelaney for helping out - guess I need some lessons in mapping and ownership. Some background if I may. I have a compiled script that has been running off a USB flash drive for a number of years quite happily under Windows XP, calling Truecrypt to handle decrypting my data on the flash drive and then backing up my changed files to an encrypted volume on the local PC's hard drive, and to a network drive mapped to Y:, before I remove the flash drive. I have recently upgraded my PCs to Windows 7 (only one administrator account) and because Truecrypt needs admin rights to load it's driver I had to add in #RequireAdmin which has caused the mapped Y: drive to be invisible to my app. @BrewManNH - you say "the script is restarted as an administrator account. Which means that it won't have the same drives mapped as the current user" but the current user is an adminstarator account? @jdelaney - I can map another drive letter to access my network drive for the duration of the script as you suggest but it doesn't seem right that I have to do this extra work. BrewManNH
Try this on your system, change the H: to whatever drive you're checking. Then comment out the #RequireAdmin, and run it again. You'll see you get different results, even as an administrator, it's just how things work. #RequireAdmin MsgBox(262144,'Debug line ~' & @ScriptLineNumber,'Selection:' & @lf & 'DriveMapGet("H:")' & @lf & @lf & 'Return:' & @lf & DriveMapGet("H:")) ;### Debug MSGBOX If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. RogerL
Now I really don't understand! Tried what you suggested and expected different results (basicly it's the same as the code in my original post) but I got: Selection: DriveMapGet("Y") Return: \\MYBOOKWORLD\Public whether #RequireAdmin was commented out or not. Somehow I've done something to my system to 'fix' my problem - if only I knew what! Reset my PC, then I got different results as expected, i.e Return: nothing if #RequireAdmin is in
jdelaney
you must have mapped, on the admin context, and the mapping was not persistant, so it reset on computer reboot.
