Function Pointers

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I've actually got some code that I'm about to contribute this site, so don't just think I'm leeching. Just as a sneak peak, I'm about finished writing a library of advanced data structures for use in AutoIt. (stacks, linked lists, deques, queues, hashtables, trees, (and lots of them) and stuff like that)... but let me get on with the question that I was going to ask...

I've been looking through autoit for a way to do function pointers -- for a while now actually -- and I've found this set of functions Execute() Assign() ... etc.

It looks a lot to me like Execute() is used to evaluate autoit code. Could it be possible to use that as a function pointer? Let's say we set it up like this.

Func f($szHashData)

; Returns a hash of something

EndFunc

Func detailedHash($szFunctionToCall)

$szResult = Execute($szFunctionToCall)

; Don't worry about parameter passing, I'm just

; wondering if it is possible to execute a function with

; execute....

EndFunc

This could be really useful for the stuff that I'm writing.

I think you'd be looking at Call rather than Execute.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.
