Array Element Max Length (DisplayArray)

Recommended Posts

In attempting to debug a related issue, I added a _DisplayArray line to see what was being pulled into my array.

If Not _FileReadToArray($FullNameArray[$j],$FileLineArray) Then
MsgBox(0,'Script Stopped - Error','Error reading' & $FullNameArray[$j] & 'to Array.')
Exit
EndIf
_ArrayDisplay($FileLineArray)

It appears my array is being populated - However, in the DisplayArray window, the strings were cut off after a certain number of characters. In the HelpFile, it states, "Maximum string length is 2147483647 characters (but keep in mind that no line in an AutoIt script can exceed 4095 characters.)" The lines of my array should be all <1500 characters, which is significantly shy of the 2 trillion.

  • Is there a different maximum string length within an array element?
  • Is this a limitation on the DisplayArray window?
There seems to be a lack of documentation in the helpfile - Whatever the case, it would be a welcome addition! :)

Thanks,

Z

Edit: String length in array is about 1500 characters max. And if it is related... The array had about 1100 elements (single dimension)

Zoreal,

From MSDN:

"If the structure receives item attributes, pszText is a pointer to a buffer that receives the item text. Note that although the list-view control allows any length string to be stored as item text, only the first 260 TCHARs are displayed"

So it looks as if you are stuck with that limit as it is a Windows, not an AutoIt, limitation. :(

Edit:

And some code showing the limit in action:

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>
#include <GuiListView.au3>

$sText = "0123456789012345"
For $i = 1 To 4
    $sText &= $sText
Next
$sText &= "**********"
ConsoleWrite(StringLen($sText) & @CRLF)

$hGUI = GUICreate("Test", 500, 500)

$cLV = GUICtrlCreateListView(" ", 10, 10, 480, 200, BitOr($LVS_SHOWSELALWAYS, $LVS_SINGLESEL, $WS_HSCROLL))
_GUICtrlListView_SetColumnWidth($cLV, 0, 2500)
GUICtrlCreateListViewItem($sText, $cLV)

GUISetState()

While 1
    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
    EndSwitch
WEnd
