RBrown1375
Hello, I need to put a script together that will allow me to install an MSI based package, have the script wait for the installation to complete, and then run an .msp patch. I couldn't find any examples on this and I'm still a little green at AutoIT. Thank You,
Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted August 27, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 27, 2012 Hi, RBROwn1375. I usually use ShellExecuteWait for this: ShellExecuteWait("msiexec.exe", '/i "<MSI PATH>" /qn') "Profanity is the last vestige of the feeble mind. RBrown1375
Thank You! I'll try this as soon as I build a test VM. One Question though, AutoIT doesn't allow you to compile an EXE that has the programs built in does it? By your script sample above it looks like I'll have to push the package out to my machines and then use AutoIT to install? Thanks Again!
BrewManNH
Look at FileInstall in the help file, you can include your program in the compiled EXE. There's also the Resources.au3 UDF in the Example Scripts section that does it a different way. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted August 28, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 28, 2012 I have never looked into embedding an MSI with the Resources UDF, but I use FileInstall quite a bit if it is a relatively small MSI. Kendall
Since you are using this for updating windows/ install package that it quite large i would suggest "fileinstall" due to "Resources UDF" having memory leaks that could cause potential issues with large installations. To be fair tho, The Resources UDF is allot easier to use. The Codemonkeyhttp://www.BMVHDloader.com
