SciTE shortcut to jump to the beginning of a function

There's a little bug/lack in the ctrl+U function:

when you use it while your cursor is out of any function it jumps to the first previous "func" (if any), despite the fact that your cursor is not inside it.

Correct...and is not a bug but that is exactly what it does. Ctrl+U jumps to the previous found FUNC line and Ctrl+Shift+J jumps back to the spot you pressed Ctrl+U.

The rest is up to you when you want to make it imbuter2000 code proof. ;)

Then the first question of this thread is still open: ... "a keyboard shortcut for jumping to the beginning of the function the cursor is in?"

Ok, I give up... I will use Page Up and Page Down... even for long functions...

Isn't that exactly what this does?

His response was in regards to you stating if you're NOT in a function it will jump back to the previous function's start point. If you're using it incorrectly, I don't see how you expect it to work.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Imbuter2000,

If you structure your code in a reasonable manner you should find that Jos' fix works for you without problem:

Main Script

Func Func_1

EndFunc

; No code here

Func Func_2

EndFunc

; No code here

Now you will always be within a function and so jump to the top. :)

You might also like to look at #region/#endregion - folding your script using those directives makes navigation within the script very easy - or look for guinness' SciTEJump. ;)

Edit: I already told you to do that on the previous page. :mad2:

you lost me here... But wishing you success anyway as it seems you arent happy with the simple approach I took for this.

Ps, tidy has an option to sort your script in a sequence described by Melba23.

Jos,

tidy has an option to sort your script in a sequence described by Melba23

I had forgotten that one - I just do it automatically. :)

Jos,

Yea it is one of those nice features that not many are aware of. It can sort your Funcs in several ways even when they are grouped with #region directives,.

any ways... Call me Weak/Stupid/both, but I had a quick look at the

Enjoy,

Jos

Don't misunderstand me, I appreciated the lua func by Jos and it would do what I asked 95-99% of times on my scripts but I simply don't want to get used to a shortcut that fails to do what I want 1-5% of times, especially because I will not always be aware of the failure.

What I asked and need is "a keyboard shortcut for jumping to the beginning of the function the cursor is in", meaning that it should jump to the root of the function or script my cursor is in. If it's not in a function it should NOT jump to the root of the last previous function, it should jump to the beginning of the script or it should do absolutely NOTHING.

P.S.: with "it" I don't refer to the lua func by Jos, I just refer to what I asked/need, what would be useful to me.

P.S. 2: writing code after a function i.m.h.o. is not unreasonable, it's just unfrequent. Some times I prefer to put short functions in the middle of the code exactly just below where I call them, if I call them multiple times in a compact sequence.

Example:

command 1
command 2
command 3
do_this("red","yellow")
do_this("brown","blue")
do_this("black","white")
Func do_this($color1,$color2)
     many beautiful things with $color1
     many beautiful things with $color2
EndFunc
command 4
command 5
command 6
