Finding out if an .exe is made with autoit

Recommended Posts

...of course it would be considered an integrity vialation and pretty much impossible to implement. It could be optional like you say but would be useless.

Most ppl wouldn't advertise a "program" as being AutoIT-based because of the scipts-engine drawbacks and somewhat ease of reverse engineering. Unfortunatly that inhibits the knowlege of how extent it is. However unlikely to happen, i still would consider it cool to have a counter and dots on a map apear every time an autoit script was run.

I'm sure AutoIT is used way more than either of us thinks :)

Post in another topic if all you want to be is rude then :P

His response was probably a touch rude, but what he was responding to, prior to your massive rewrite, probably warranted it. First you acknowledge that what you wanted this information for was a bit sketchy, then slam the language by saying people wouldn't want others to know it was written in AutoIt because it was slow and what not.

Third, you still haven't explained how you knowing what language a program was written in, allows the world to know how many programs written in it are being used? The program itself doesn't advertise this fact, you have to go digging for it in the exe file, so it's not going to spread anything outside of itself.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

How to ask questions the smart way!

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator

hehe, all i said was that it would be cool to know how much ppl actually use AutoIT, if you have a better idea than a "call home"-function, feel free to indulge.

Slam the laguage? really? I love AutoIT, couldn't live a day without it but i'm not going to pretend it's flawless, just like many other script languages.

Third, it's not about the language itself, it's how it's contained. Knowing how many ppl uses a lower lever language would be a harder task since there are so many compilers and derivatives out there whereas Autoit uses manly one compiler and a very specific signature.

Firefox had a website with a map to display from where the browser was downloaded, Android calls home upon activation... If, theoreticly, the AutoIT compiler had a mandatory "call-home" include, the task of mapping AutoIT would be doable.

I'm not saying it should be done, i'm not saying it's easy, i'm saying it would be cool, according to my own perception... that's all.

Hi,

Enough of this. "Ringing home" is not something we want to see in any AutoIt executable, regardless of whether it is "cool" or not. Thread closed. :naughty:
