Need Help With UTF-8 Encoding

 Share

Recommended Posts

I need to write to a file that uses UTF-8 without BOM encoding. According to the FileOpen instructions, I need to open the file i'm writing to using file mode 258 (2+256). Something like:

$fileO = FileOpen("Newfile.txt", 258)

When I open the output file in Notepad++, it shows the encoding as ANSI.

As a test, I tried using the FileOpen command with UTF-8 encoding with BOM (2+128). When i opened that output file in Notepad++, the file shows the proper encoding (UTF-8 with BOM).

Has anyone else experienced this, and can you tell me how to get the UTF-8 without BOM encoding to work correctly?

Thanks.

UTF8 without BOM is an ASCII file, it's up to the program reading it to determine if it's UTF8 or ASCII at that point.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
