Sandboxie - how does it work? Or file manipulation when other program tries access to it?

Hello.

I wonder, Sandboxie is a tiny program, that executes programs in a restricted environment and copies files from "normal" environment to that environment when the program tries to access them.

How does it work?

Specifically how does it know which file a program is trying to access, and most important question of the day, can this be done with AutoIT?

In my particular case I'm looking for a way have an encrypted file stored on the disk and when a specific program tries to read the file, stream a decrypted content to that program (or at least decrypt it before it reads it, and then encrypt it again once it's done)

What do you think, is it even possible to achieve?

Thank you.
