Return a substring in a string by occurence

Dear all,

I was wondering if there is any way to return a substring in a string by occurence?

 

e.g.

 

$string = "white,white,white,white"

$3white = search for the third occurence of the word 'white' in $string

msgbox(0,"",$3white)

 

obviously, $3white should return the word 'white', but it is the 3rd occurence from string $string

 

I tried StringInStr but it doesn't return the substring, it just returns the character count

Local $iPos = StringInStr($string, $sFind, 0, $iOccurence)
Local $3white = StringMid($string, $iPos, StringLen($sFind))

Local $aString = StringSplit($String, ",")
ConsoleWrite($aString[3] & @LF)

OK, I will bite.

 

obviously, $3white should return the word 'white', but it is the 3rd occurence from string $string

If you already know the string you are looking for, why do you need to return the 3rd instance? Your return variable will hold the same string as the search term, so what is the point?

Indeed this would make more sense if the purpose is to extract a pattern or to replace an occurence of a substring
