Saving Power Issue

Hi All

I made a scrip that opens up a website and clicks certain places... then goes to sleep for 4 hours and does  it again.

so i use Sleep(14400000) to get the 4 hours of sleep.  During this sleep time i can't turn off my computer, which means i am wasting power.

Is there any function that can be used to

 - turn on the computer

 - run the script

 - turn off the computer

 - wait 4 hours

 - turn on the computer ... run script.

I would rather not keep my computer on for 4 hours if i can avoid it. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Scheduled task -> Wake the computer to run this task, it's under the Conditions tab of the task scheduler. Then instead of shutting the computer off, you just put it to sleep so that it can be woken up at the proper time.

If you're running WinXP there's a similar checkbox for that feature, just can't recall where it in in the task scheduler.

Even when a computer is turned off, with a power supply plugged in, it can still be turned on.

I don't recall how.  My work computer always turns on at midnight (example, I power it off at end of the day), but the scheduled task is on another user profile than what i login as.

I'll look into it...should really get rid of it anyways.

You can set it in the BIOS to have the computer turn on at a certain time, if the BIOS supports that. But there's no way for a script to turn that option on. You can also wake it up via the LAN from another computer, if the network card is set with Wake-On-LAN turned on, but you'd need another computer that stays on to do that, and again, there's no way to turn on that option via a script.
